1. OVERVIEW

The primary objective was to build a custom WordPress website. The site needed to match the design and the backend needed to be customized for easy updates.

We were sent a design file and upon review some of the design specs were not recommended. Such as the sizes of sections in the map and fonts.

The map functionality would need to vary based on device. On the backend a system allowing for changes to the map content would be required.

2. THE CHALLENGES

  • Desgin recommendations
  • map responsiveness
  • map functionality

3. The Solutions

  • Adjust design when appropriate
  • Customization of back-end
  • careful responsiveness review

When we receive the final design file from the client we do a quick evaluation. If we see something that looks a bit off or is not typical to UX design. We will say something.

In this case we caught a few minor details that we thought we could improve upon. The client was kind enough to hear our suggestions and let us make those changes.

One important reason we were hired was to make sure they would be able to easily make edits to the site. Through a custom plugin we gave them the ability to change all the content needed.

We were brought on-board to develop a new blog site. Initially the primary requirement was to match the approved Figma design. The purpose and functionality of the site later expanded to encompass much more than “just a blog site”.

As the project progressed it became apparent that the site was expanding into a resource center. Which meant more customization based on the type of content.

Flexibility and planning would be needed so the site could also offer Press Releases, Webinars, Events, Gated content in addition to being a popular blog. Due to the website’s success and Clover being an international company. It was requested that the blog site become multi-lingual.

Our collaboration with Clover in planning the introduction of a multi-lingual site, took several months. We settled on migrating the site from a single site to a network site, allowing for easier maintenance of the language sites.

Artkade was initially hired to maintain Broadway San Jose’s WordPress website. At a future date, the site would have a redesign and rebuild. Due to it’s “out-of-date” look and inefficient use of managing the content.

It was clear from the beginning that the power of using a Content Managing System (CMS) like WordPress was not being utilized. For example, to change a show date used to occur in multiple places, causing errors and update timing issues.

For the visuals, the website needed to be elevated, modernized and more user friendly. We would also need to make sure the rebuild followed correct SEO & ADA guidelines.

2. The challenges

  • Improve backend CMS
  • Elevate frontend
  • SEO & ADA Guidelines

3. The Solutions

  • Customized backend CMS
  • Redesign with impactful Imagery
  • improve SEO & ADA

Our specialty is being able to create a truly usable CMS that works with your content needs. The first thing we did was map out the content to the new design. Allowing us to build custom sections within WordPress just for the Broadway shows. This fixed the content management issue, which could now be updated in one spot and used throughout the website in different areas dynamically.

For the site redesign, we focused on the the impactful imagery each show offers. Delivering full size images, slideshows and clear, easy to read information of dates, times and purchasing links. Each show is now it’s own mini landing page.

Inclusively, we cleaned up page URLs and page structure to match SEO standards and made sure the site was ADA compliant.
